What Is A PLR Website?
If you join a PLR membership site, you will see tons of listing for all different niches. There are many different types of content – articles, ebooks, videos, software and websites. This article will focus on the types of websites that you might puchase as PLR material.
Most websites that you find on PLR sites are sites designed to sell a specific product. Maybe an ebook or some kind of audio or video download. It’s almost always some sort of digital product, one that you don’t have to physically ship. I usually refer to these sites as “mini-sites” since they are usually only a few pages and most often they consist of a landing/sales page, an order page and maybe one or two other informational pages. You can think of these things as a template for a site. You know how you see lots of sales pages that all look the same? A good percentage of those were probably obtained as part of a private label rights membership site.
The package usually consists of some HTML pages, graphics and the product that you’re selling. There’s usually no instructions or helpful little “read me” file so you are on your own! It’s up to you to upload these files to your own hosting account (where you’ve purchased a domain name to use for the site) and modify everything as needed. One thing you will need to do is integrate some sort of payment processing (PayPal is usually the easiest) and find a way to secure the digital product so people can’t download it without paying for it. I’m not going to get into these topics because they’re way too technical.
It’s a good idea to scan the HTML code of the web pages to make sure there are no hidden links anywhere. Sometimes, some shady coders place links to their own sites in these website templates as a way to improve their SEO. Or even worse, they may contain links to spyware/malware sites!
Then there is the problem of having a website that looks like everyone else’s. An easy way around this is to set up your own Wordpress site and copy all of the page content (the text and graphics) and paste it into your new Wordpress site. You can create separate pages and create a linking structure very similar to how the HTML site was set up. Then you can make your site look however you want, while still having the sales copy and order forms, etc. of the original site. Having the ability to add a blog to the site is a big plus too!
How To Make Good Use Of Private Label Rights Articles
OK, so you’ve purchased some good PLR material and now you need to figure out how you’re going to use it. You can’t just take a PLR article and submit it to an article directory or put it directly on one of your own sites. Chances are pretty good that hundreds, if not thousands, or other people purchased the same exact articles that you did! Most article directories won’t accept content that’s a duplicate of something they already have, and you want your own websites to always have unique content. So how do you make use of those spiffy new PLR articles you just bought? Read on!
The easiest and cheapest way to use them is to do a simple rewrite. Take your purchased article and read it. Then right a totally new article that says the same things as the one you purchased, but uses different words and sentence structure. Don’t just move words around and move whole paragraphs, that’s not enough to make it truly unique. You can use some of the same phrases and obviously your re-written article will be very similar, but it shouldn’t have any whole sentences that are exactly the same.
I find it easiest to have two windows open. The PLR on the left and my new blank document on the right. Then I take it one paragraph at a time. I read the first paragraph on the left and rewrite it into my new article on the right. I sometimes need a thesaurus to find new words to use, but I am able to deliver the same information while wording things differently.
Once you’ve completed your rewrite, you can use a site like CopyScape to see if it passes as “unique content”. If it doesn’t find any duplicate content, then you can be pretty sure that it’s safe to submit to an article directory or use on your own site. These sites aren’t perfect at finding duplicate content, but it’s the only way to find out this type of thing. You could try doing a simple Google search for one or two of your sentences as another method.
One of the more important things to change is the article title. A lot of people will use the article exactly as-is and you don’t want your version to be associated with those other PLR ones at all. Make sure you completely rename the article and never submit to an article directory with the original title.
